30 Long-Term Relationship Memes for Loyal Couples Fluent in Each Other’s Emotional Love Languages (February 21, 2024)
The concept of love languages, popularized by Gary Chapman, is a tactic to further emotional understanding of your partner, and gain a better, educated way of expressing love and appreciation for them. Whether we all equally fall into a category of love expressions, it can't hurt to discuss with your partner and be aware of the ways they symbolize love. There are five agreed upon love languages: physical touch, acts of service, quality time, gift giving, and words of affirmation. In general, it's common to straddle two of these love languages. I know for myself the love languages I like to receive are acts of service and quality time, and I express love languages through physical touch.
Making any effort to broaden your perspective and understanding of your partner, inside and out, is the most important gift you can give to your relationship. When you put the work into a relationship, it shows. It's what separates a long-term or forever relationship with a short term one riddled with fights, misunderstandings, and pain. Long term relationships are predicated on the mutual respect and effort that two people put into each other, as well as themselves. You can't love someone else if you don't love yourself first.
